Oxfam has more than 700 charity shops located throughout the UK and the revenue from their charity shops has become a large part of their donated income.
Recently, under the Government Gift Aid Scheme, they have been able to increase their income by being able to reclaim 28% of the sales value of products sold in their shops that have been donated by tax payers.
Because Oxfam shop staff are primarily volunteers, a cash register (rather than a PC terminal) was chosen for the point of sale to simplify sales processing by volunteer staff.
The cash register contained sophisticated software to ensure that data necessary to comply with the Gift Aid Scheme was captured while at the same time preserving simplicity at the point of sale.
A significant contribution to the success of this project was the advice and assistance provided by Oxfam’s chosen consultant, Accenture, who worked tirelessly with Geller technical staff to ensure that the project complied with Oxfam’s criteria.
